Fishing:
Directly in front of the jetties there are promising opportunities for fishing for flatfish and sea fish, depending on the tide and the time of year. As the sound is only a few hundred meters wide and thus relatively sheltered from the wind, boat fishing is possible in any weather. The sea fish in the sounds are rich in species and numerous because the sound currents provide them with plenty of food. In front of Egersund lies the Eigerøy peninsula, surrounded by water and fish, and a great area for sea fishing from a boat at any time of year. To the north of Eigerøy there is a very good fishing area with mainly good plateaus and sandy bottom. Halibut is also present in good sizes around the island of Eigerøy.
The salmon that migrate in have to go through these narrows of the sound in order to be able to ascend into the nearby rivers near Egersund. In order to outwit these magnificent lone fighters, you can also fish with trolled wobblers, spinners and flies or natural bait such as mackerel chunks and coalfish pieces, or fish for char. The Norwegian salmon river Bjerkreim (Teng) flows through the municipality of the same name in the province of Rogaland in the southern beginning of western Norway and flows into the town of Egersund. The river is regularly considered one of the best salmon rivers in Norway due to the good catch numbers. Many smaller salmon between 1 and 5 kilos are caught on the hook, and in good conditions you can regularly hope for bites - fish between 4 and 12 kilos are also possible. Overall, the clear Bjerkreimselva promises exciting fishing in beautiful nature, in a dreamlike setting and surrounded by rocky mountain ranges.
For several years now, Norwegians have also been fishing with hand lines in Tengs harbor, catching mainly cod, pollock or sea trout, and occasionally mackerel or salmon. In winter, it is traditional to fish for cod through holes in the ice.
Important: Trips on the open sea should always be well planned in a seamanlike manner, and the weather must also be right. Alcohol is strictly prohibited when boating. Visit the rivers for salmon and trout fishing, but also the large freshwater lakes in the area (note the closed seasons, day tickets required). You can find a great report and information on salmon fishing here . We will give you sketches and GPS coordinates when you book.
Activities:
The fine sandy beaches around Eigeroy are well-known and are ideal for sunbathing and swimming. There are also exciting hiking trails. The peninsula has a lot to offer, as there are exciting photo opportunities everywhere. We definitely recommend an evening visit to the restaurants and pubs in Egersund (10 km), as Norwegian cuisine is excellent. Or visit the many maritime hotels. At the weekend there is live music and dance events in many towns. The shopping centers have everything, you can shop to your heart's content. When filling up, make sure that you only accept card payments (Visa and Mastercard with PIN). Other gas stations and ATMs are easy to find in the city area. In addition to restaurants, pubs and dance bars, Egersund offers a varied pedestrian zone with many shops and other attractions. There is always something going on here, from open-air concerts to other performances. There is also a horse farm in Egersund. You can find more information about fishing, leisure and tour options here and here
