Fishing and leisure activities in Farsund and Bjoernevag region
Fishing in Farsund, Bjoernevag, Nordstranda and the waters outside Katland on the sea up to Cape Lindesnes.
In the area around Farsund, with its fjords, island gardens, skerries and the extremely fish-rich plateaus on the sea off Katland and the Kletten, water sports and saltwater fishing (all types) are at the top of your daily agenda. For diving, kiting, surfing and leisure, sports and hobby anglers, the area is always known for surprises.
Good catches of impressive sea fish such as cod, pollack, coalfish, shad and lumpfish, sometimes halibut, as well as mackerel in abundance are brought home from the sea hotspots off Farsund, between Lindesnes Fyr and Lista Fyr. Of course we know that the success rate depends on the weather, the time of year and the currents, but that's just how it is on the coasts all over Norway. Many of our guests have sent us pictures, videos and feedback on their fishing experiences, see for yourself. (Click on impressions)
Here you will also find the best and most impressive fishing videos of our fishing friends Achim and Claus from the Bjoernevag, Farsund and Borhaug region of the last 10 years.
Here you can find the fishing films from The Achim Videos" 2014 – 2023" (Link) on YouTube
The exciting videos show once again that fishing in the Lista region is very productive when the weather is stable. The sizes of the fish caught are particularly impressive, although it is often said that there are no big fish in southern Norway."
It is important to use the right fishing gear and methods. Here you will find the right tips on equipment and the fishing methods we recommend. (Click link)
The open sea with its plateaus Nesskletten, Svaneflua, Rauna and other good fishing spots should only be approached with suitable boats and only in stable weather.
What is important to us: You should only go to offshore fishing spots when the weather is stable and with a suitable boat! Small dinghies should avoid offshore fishing areas and have no place on the open sea.

After all, the entire area offers more than 20 species of fish that can be caught. You can fish between the islands and skerries, or in the protected fjord, with hardly any days off to speak of, in almost any weather. In good weather with little wind, you can easily reach the open sea and the sandy plateaus from most of the locations. In the wintery spring, the herring come to the coast, along with strong fighting cod and coalfish.
Flatfish, flounder and mefo can be caught from some of the jetties, as well as other sea fish. The owner can usually give you good weather tips and pointers to worthwhile fishing spots. Wind-protected fishing in the fjord is almost always possible. So if you want to combine fishing and family, a short journey and many alternative holiday activities, this region is the place for you.
You can book professionally guided fishing trips from Farsund or Borhaug. The operator Björnevags also offers guided deep sea and high sea fishing trips, for example, with M/S Bjørnevåg, 32 ft/100 HP, certified for 5-8 people. The tour lasts around 6 hours and only takes place with a binding confirmation. (Can only be booked and paid for on site in Björnevag).
Fishing at Nordstranda:
At different times of the year, schools of mackerel and other sea fish species move into the Helvikfjorden near Norstranda. From April onwards, fishing for sea trout directly from the jetty at Nordstranda or at the "Svingbru v Bøensbakken" is extremely promising and successful. We believe that the best sea trout fishing can be found on the banks and beaches of Farsund, or even under the bridge in the town centre when it's windy. We have tested this ourselves and have been very successful.
In the summer of 2023, a pod of peaceful killer whales (orcas) even moved into the inner fjords and stayed there for several weeks to feed and rest. Visitors should stay away from these majestic animals and the seals by boat and always keep a sufficient distance.
Did you know that from our new Nordstranda facility near Helvik you can take a boat through the fjords to Lyngdal or Apta? Or in just 15 minutes you can go straight to the town centre of Farsund and from there quickly out to sea, past the Katland lighthouse?
Freshwater fishing / in the surrounding lakes and streams:
There are many beautiful fishing spots in the area - for trout, char and sea trout. On the Listerfriluft.no website you will find an overview of the fishing lakes and sea trout spots. For some freshwater lakes you need a permit, which you can pay for. Here you will find all the information about the freshwater fishing spots in southern Norway. (Click here)
We wish you much success, fun and good fishing.

Additional costs included boat:
Included are the costs for boat rental, berth and inventory as described, hull insurance with 1000 Euro excess depending on boat type and insurance, the necessary safety features and equipment according to Norwegian law.
Exclusive and not included in the rental price: insurance for passengers and accident protection, personal liability insurance, excess coverage, consumables, fuel and lubricants.
Boat insurance - hull:
Boats usually have hull insurance. The excess in the event of damage is up to 1000 euros. The amount of the excess can vary. This must be requested from the boat owner when taking over the boat and documented on the checklist. Personal items are not insured. Hull insurance does not cover accidental damage suffered by people traveling on the rental property. The renter is liable for damage to and loss of the boat if the damage is not covered by the insurance. Damage also includes consequential damage. The landlord/owner can keep the deposit paid until the damage is repaired. The excess per claim is to be paid by the renter and may differ from the deposit. If the boat is returned without defects, the deposit will be refunded immediately. Any damage not covered by the deposit or insurance must be compensated by the renter immediately before departure. The renter undertakes to report any damage, collisions, other unusual occurrences or complaints to the landlord/owner immediately.
boat license:
Guests born before January 1, 1980 do not need a license for motorboats of this class in Norway. For younger people, a boat license for boats with more than 25 HP is mandatory.
Binding rules of conduct - tenant's liability:
We recommend strictly abstaining from alcohol on the boat.
The renter is liable for damage caused by himself and also for all damage caused by other users of the boat. The renter and all other users use the boat at their own risk. The renter informs his crew in good time that they will take out appropriate insurance against damage events before the start of the trip. In addition, the boat operator must familiarize the crew with the boat technology and the contract conditions and ensure that all passengers wear life jackets on trips.
If the fish are cleaned on the boat or on a filleting table on the jetty, please dispose of the fish waste at sea and not in the harbor basin. Always cover fish waste (seagulls).
Territory restriction:
Trips are only permitted in the fjords or near the coast. A minimum distance of 100 meters must be maintained from fish farms or similar facilities. Failure to comply with maritime regulations can lead to immediate termination of the rental agreement by the landlord/owner. The tenant's claims are then deemed to be forfeited.
Cleaning the boat:
The renter must carry out the thorough final cleaning of the boat himself. The renter returns the boat in the clean condition it was handed over to him by the landlord.
